The mayoral candidate of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) for Khulna City Corporation polls Nazrul Islam Manju has withdrawn the decision to postpone the election campaign four hours after his announcement.

He postponed the election campaign at a press briefing at his residence at Miah Para road in the city on Thursday around 9am protesting the arrest of 19 leaders and activists of the party.

He also threatened that he will not resume his election campaign until the detainees are released.

After four hours of his announcement, Manju resumed his election campaign after holding a press conference at the party office around 1pm and said that his party has taken the election as a part of movement.

On Wednesday night, law enforcers arrested 19 leaders and activists of BNP, including its city unit publicity affairs secretary Asaduzzaman Murad, Jubo Dal president Mahbub Hossain Piyaru, district unit president Mostafa-Ul-Bari Lavlu and district unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatral Dal general secretary Golam Mostafa Tuhin from different parts of the city.

KCC election is scheduled to be held on May 15. A total of five candidates are in the mayoral race, 148 general ward candidates in 31 general wards and 38 councillor candidates in the 10 wards reserved for women.
