Conspiracy cannot bring BNP to power: Shajahan

Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan on Friday said BNP cannot go to power by hatching conspiracies without taking part in election.

"BNP will have to forget those days of going to power through conspiracy. They must have to take part in parliament election to go to power," he told a prize-giving ceremony of annual sports competition of Madaripur Police Lines Government Primary School here, reports BSS.

The minister said the people would decide which party would go to power. Shajahan said the BNP, which took over power by assassinating Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, can never believe in democracy.

On the other hand, Awami League had come to power capitalizing on the people's mandate and the party does politics depending on the people, he added.

The minister said Bangladesh had achieved independence through nine-month long Liberation War under the leadership of Awami League headed by Bangabandhu.

Awami League is one of the oldest political parties and it has a huge acceptance among the people, he observed.

He said but the government and Awami League want the participation of BNP in the next election, he added.

The minister said the next national election would be held under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in line with the constitution.

Madaripur Zila Parishad Chairman Miazuddin Khan, Deputy Commissioner Md Wahidul Islam, Police Super Mohammed Sarwar Hossain, Sadar Upazila Chairman Pavelur Rahman Shafiq Khan, Police Lines Government Primary School Headmaster Abdur Rahman Bachchu, among others, were present on the occasion.
