Khaleda sent to old central jail
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has been sent to the old central jail at Nazimuddin road in the capital after a Dhaka court sentenced her to five years imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
The car carrying former Prime Minister Khaleda entered the jail premises at 3.08pm on Thursday.
She will be kept at the Day Care Centre of the jail.
Earlier, Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman of the Special Court-5 gave 5 years jail to Khaleda and 10 years for her son Tarique Rahman and four others in the case.
Four other convicts are former BNP lawmaker Salimul Haq Kamal and businessman Sharfuddin Ahmed, former principal secretary to the PM Kamal Uddin Siddique and Mominur Rahman, nephew of late President Ziaur Rahman.
Kamal Uddin Siddique and Mominur Rahman have been absconding.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on July 3, 2008 with Ramna Police Station accusing Khaleda, her eldest son Tarique, who is now living in the UK after securing bail, and four others for misappropriating over 21 million that came as grants from a foreign bank for orphans.
