JP to contest independently in next general election: Ershad

Jatiya Party Chairman Hussain Mohammed Ershad today said his party would contest independently in the next election, terming JP as a factor in the upcoming polls. 

“JP has become a political factor for the next polls, so all leading political parties want JP to include into its alliance,” Ershad told journalists at a press conference held at Radisson Blue, here this afternoon.

Ershad, also special envoy to the Prime Minister, reiterated that Jatiya Party is now with the Awami League-led alliance but he is unable to forecast about his party’s future political course.

He said JP has taken preparations to contest in the next polls independently. 

Ershad, a former president, urged all party leaders and activities to make the party stronger organizationally so that the JP can play a very powerful role in the upcoming general election.

He called upon the JP leaders and workers to take preparations for the upcoming polls and carry out door-to-door campaign in favour of the party for the next polls.

Speaking about the recently-held Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) election, the JP Chairman said present election commission has presented an impartial and creditable election before the nation.

“To me RCC polls are the fairest so far in Bangladesh,” he added.

JP leader Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu, MP, and Mahjabin Morshed MP, JP presidium member Solaiman Alam Shet, Morshed Murad Ibrahim, among others, were present in the press conference.
