Political understanding with BNP not possible: Quader
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said political understanding with BNP will not be possible for the indecent behavior of its chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
"Begum Zia called Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as 'Hasina' which hurt our feelings...There is no courtesy in her politics," he said, speaking at a discussion at the VIP Lounge of Jatiya Press Club (JPC) here, BSS reported.
JPC organized the programme as the March 7 historical speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was recognized as world heritage by UNESCO.
The daily Samokal Editor Golam Sarwar, JPC Vice Presidents Saiful Alam and Azizul Islam Bhuiyan, former General Secretary Swapan Shaha and JPC senior member Zahiduzzaman, among others, addressed the meeting with JPC President Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman in the chair.
JPC General Secretary Farida Yeasmin gave the welcome speech while the daily Bhorer Kagoj Editor and JPC executive committee member Shyamol Datta conducted the programme.
Rejecting any possibility of talks between Awami League and BNP, Quader said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina went to the home of Begum Zia, when her younger son Arafat Rahman Koko died, to express her (Sheikh Hasina) sympathy as she is also a mother.
But, he said, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was not allowed to meet Khaleda Zia that day. They closed the door, he added.
About BNP's demand for a neutral government during the election period, Quader said the government will cooperate with the Election Commission in holding the next election in a fair and transparent manner.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said Awami League will not oppose deploying armed forces during the polls. If the EC wants, they can deploy them as the striking force, he added.
