Arrest warrants for Tarique, two journalists
A Dhaka court on Monday issued warrants for the arrest of BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman and two others in a sedition case filed in 2015.
The two other accused in the case are Mahathir Farooki Khan, the then chief reporter of Ekushey Television, and its then special correspondent Kanak Sarwar.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Kamrul Hossain Molla issued the arrest warrants after taking cognisance of the chargesheet submitted against the three accused in the case.
On January 5, 2015, Tarique had made controversial remarks regarding Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangladesh’s 1971 Liberation War.
On January 8, Sub-Inspector Borhanuddin filed the sedition case with Tejgaon Police Station over the live telecast of a provocative speech by Tarique.
