BNP accepted Zia's illegal power capture: Quader

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said BNP's silence on the court verdict over the 16th constitutional amendment has proved that the party has accepted its founder Ziaur Rahman illegally captured state power.

“The Supreme Court verdict mentioned that Ziaur Rahman had illegally usurped the state power. But, BNP did not make any comment about the (court) judgement. So, it seems the party has accepted the matter of Zia's illegal capture of state power,” he said.

The AL general secretary said this while distributing relief goods among flood-affected people in Syedpur upazila stadium area in the district.

The minister assured that the government would stay beside the flood victim until their rehabilitation.

“I am giving you assurance that distribution of relief goods will continue, medical teams will continue to work and the flood victims will be rehabilitated ... we would always stay beside you,” he told the flood victims.

Quader said they came to the flood affected areas for not only photo session rather they stayed beside the victims like the past.

He said many BNP leaders visited the affected areas but they gave nothing to the victims.

“BNP leaders did not go to haor and coastal areas. They went to hilly areas but staged a drama and returned from the midway,” he added.

The AL general secretary said BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir went to Syedpur and returned after making photo session.

“Even after that I want to express thanks to Mirza Fakhrul as he came to his own area and met the flood-hit people,” he added.

Awami League advisory council member Satish Chandra Roy, its Joint General Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Organising Secretaries BM Mozammel Haque and Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Relief and Social Welfare Affairs Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Nilphamari-3 constituency lawmaker Professor Golam Mostafa and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Khaled Rahim were present on the occasion.
