Shohag-Zakir to lead BCL

Ruling Awami League’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has elected Saifur Rahman Shohag as the president and Zakir Hossain as the General Secretary of the new committee on Sunday. Chief Election Commissioner Milon Kundu at 8:10 pm announced the names of the elected leaders for the next two years term.

Shohag, student of Linguistics in University of Dhaka (2005-06 sessions) served as the secretary for environmental affair in the previous committee. He was also the general secretary of Ziaur Rahman hall of DU earlier.

Zakir Hossain, a student of Political Science in DU (2008-09 sessions) served as the assistant secretary in the previous committee.

Members of BCL elected the duo through voting at Engineers Institute Bangladesh in the capital earlier this morning.

A total of 3,108 councilors casted their votes in the election. Of them 484 casted vote from the organisation`s central committee. Some 15 candidates run the race for president post after the withdrawal of some nominations, while 25 competed for the post of general secretary.
