Sheikh Kamal did not abuse power: Quader

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, did not abuse power.

"Though Sheikh Kamal was very close to power, he did not create any alternative power house like 'Hawa Bhaban' of BNP to misuse power," he told a discussion marking the 68th birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal at Jatiya Press Club conference lounge here.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique, Awami League Youth and Sports Affairs Secretary Harun-or-Rashid, Jatiya Press Club President Shafiqur Rahman and Cultural Personality Pijush Bandhapadhayay, among others, addressed the function organized by Satirtho-Swajan with eminent journalist Abed Khan in the chair.

The minister said Sheikh Kamal possessed extraordinary qualities as he did not worked for the then next election rather did for the betterment of next generation.

About the scrapped 16th constitutional amendment, Quader said BNP is very happy as Supreme Court scrapped the amendment.

"They are looking for issues from different incidents. But, that will not work," he said calling upon the BNP leaders to work for attaining public confidence otherwise everything will go in vein.
