PM Hasina reveals the origin of her son name
Today is the 47th birthday of Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of the incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and late Dr. M Wazed Mia. He was born on July 27, 1971, during the liberation war of Bangladesh.
Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina, also daughter of Bangladesh’s founding leader Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, has revealed the origin of her son name on this day.
“Father of the Nation declared independence of Bangladesh and subsequently was arrested by Pakistan Army. Some days later, we were placed under house arrest in a home with wet and damp floor,” Hasina recalled when the leaders of Swechchasebak League met her in Prime Minister’s official residence Ganabhaban on Thursday.
“I couldn’t eat and drink as I was pregnant. My mother wasn’t allowed to go to the hospital when I gave birth to Joy.
“We, however, got freshness in our house after the birth of Joy and that’s why my mother named him Sajeeb (fresh),” said the Prime Minister.
She also revealed the origin of his son name ‘Joy’, “The flag of Bangladesh was hoisted on March 23, 1971. On that day, my father said, ‘I don’t know whether I will be alive or not, but Bangladesh will get independence. Your child will be a citizen of independent Bangladesh. If you give birth to a baby boy, name him Joy’.”
Sajeeb Wazed Joy in a facebook post wrote, “A big thank you to everyone for all the birthday wishes. I wish I could respond to everyone in person. My best wishes to everyone!”
