Army to be deployed if EC wants: Quader

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said the members of Bangladesh Army would be deployed during the election as a `striking force` if the Election Commission (EC) demands for it.

“The members of army were deployed as the striking force during the election of BNP regime ... this time the force would also be deployed if the EC demands,” he told reporters while addressing a meeting to review the activities that were taken on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr and upcoming plan for Eid-ul-Azha.

Quader, also the general secretary of the ruling party, said the Election Commission could deploy the members of Army if they want as per constitution. BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia also did it, he added.

About the allegation of Begum Zia that many AL leaders have accounts in Swiss Bank, the minister said, “We have no record in this regard.” All people know the acts of Tareq and Koko which were proved at various courts in different countries, he added.
