AL observes 68th founding anniversary

Leaders and activists of the ruling Bangladesh Awami League (AL) and its front organizations on Friday paid tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi Road no-32 on the occasion of the 68th founding anniversary of the party.

In 1949, the party was formed as Awami Muslim League at the historic Rose Garden in Old Dhaka City and subsequently the party was renamed as Awami League.

On this occasion, Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing wreath at the portrait of the great leader in front of Bangabandhu Bhaban.

Sheikh Hasina stood solemn silence for some time in front of the portrait of Bangabandhu.

Members of the cabinet, state ministers and party lawmakers accompanied her during this time.

Then Sheikh Hasina along with party leaders placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu on behalf of Awami League.

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury, Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Awami League Presidium Member Advocate Sahara Khatun and other central leaders of the party were present on the occasion.

Later, the prime minister along with the party leaders inaugurated the 68th founding anniversary programmes of Bangladesh Awami League by releasing pigeons and balloons and hoisting national and party flags. National anthem was orchestrated during this time.

Meanwhile, people from all strata including different political, social, cultural and professional organizations paid deep respect to Bangabandhu by placing wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation.
