Dreadful days will return if BNP comes to power: Quader

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said horrific days will return like those in 2001 if BNP comes to power.

"Don`t you remember the incidents of 2001? They (BNP) set fire to houses of leaders and activists of Awami League . . . BNP will be very terrible if they get power," he told the council of Tanti League`s Dhaka City North and South units at Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh.

He described the call for movement by BNP as lofty way of talking. "BNP committee has 596 leaders. They all together cannot bring out a procession. If leaders cannot take to street, how workers will do that?" he said.

Quader said BNP leaders watch Hindi serial on television after calling for movement.

About BNP leader Moudud Ahmed`s eviction from Gulshan house, the AL general secretary said, "The government did not do anything, he had to leave the house following a Supreme Court verdict."

Tanti League President Engineer Shawkat Ali chaired the function while its General Secretary Khagendra Chandra Debnath and Executive President Sadhana Das Gupta addressed the function among others.
