Khulna BNP leader, body guard killed

Khulna District BNP Organizing Secretary Sarder Alauddin Mithu, 42, and his body guard Nowsher Ali, 35, were gunned down by unidentified armed terrorists last night.

Police and locals said Mithu’s father-in-law Sayed Fazlul Alam Selim, 56, and another body guard Siraz Morol, 51, also suffered by bullet injuries during the attack.

Riding on two motorcycles the gang of terrorists numbering about 5 to 6 swopped on the business establishment of the BNP leader- Mithu Enterprise- at Fultala Natunhat, adjacent to his residence, around 10.pm.

Personifying themselves as members of the detective branch (DB), the terrorists stormed into the office of Mithu Enterprise and started firing targeting Mithu and his gunmen.

Mithu killed on the spot while his gunman Nowsher Ali succumbed to his injuries at midnight at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH).

Injured Selim and Siraz were rushed to local health complex and later shifted to Khulna Medical Colloge Hospital.

Officer-in-charge of Fultala Police Station Munshi Asaduzzaman said the criminals entered Mithu’s office after killing his body guard Nowsher.

Later, they shot Mithu and his other gunman Siraz at point blank.

On August 18, 1998 Mithu’s father Sarder Alauddin, ex-chairman of Damodar Union Parishad, was gunned down by terrorists at Fultala UNO Office.

His elder brother Abu Sayeed Badal was also gunned down by terrorists on August 16, 2010.
