Special Judge Court-5 to hear Khaleda’s graft case

The High Court (HC) on Tuesday transferred Zia Orphanage Trust graft case against BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia from Dhaka Senior Special Judge Court to Dhaka Special Judge Court-5.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Md. Shawkat Hossain and Justice Md. Nazrul Islam Talukder passed the order today.

“The High Court on May 14 ordered to transfer the case from Dhaka Senior Special Judge Court. Today the High Court fixed Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 to deal with the case,” said Khaleda’s counsel Zakir Hossain Bhuiyan.

Earlier Dhaka 3rd Special Judge Court was hearing the case against the BNP chief. But allowing a plea of her, the High Court on March 8 had given Dhaka Senior Special Judge Court the charge to go on with the trial proceedings.

But on April 14, Khaleda expressed no confidence on this court too.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on July 3, 2008, filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case with Ramna police station, accusing Khaleda, her son Tarique Rahman and four others for embezzlement of over Tk 21 million brought from abroad meant for the orphans.
