Khaleda makes a statement of madness: Quader

Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today binned BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s statement on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s India visit terming it a ‘statement of madness’.

“BNP Chief Begum Zia’s statement on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s India visit is nothing but an insanity,” said the minister while addressing a press conference at the AL President’s political office in city’s Dhanmondi area.

AL arranged the press conference against the backdrop of Khaleda Zia’s comment on Prime Minister’s India visit.

Denouncing Begum Zia’s statement, Quader said only Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had resolved many issues between Bangladesh and India that included land boundary, maritime boundary and Ganges river water sharing.

“Similarly, the Tista water sharing issue would be resolved under her leadership,” the AL party secretary noted.

Referring to the agreement and memorandum of understandings (MoUs), signed with India during the latest visit of Sheikh Hasina, he said Bangladesh already signed such deals and MoUs with many other countries, but there were no criticism about those deals.

Responding to reporters, Quader ruled out any possibility of forging alliance with Hefajat-e-Islam saying that AL’s ideology is far off that party.

AL central leaders including presidium member Dr Abdur Razzak, joint general secretaries Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif and Jahangir Kabir Nanak, organizing secretaries Ahmad Hossen and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, publicity secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, office secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, cultural affairs secretary Asim Kumar Ukil, relief affairs secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, forest and environment affairs secretary Delwar Hossain and information and research secretary advocate Afzal Hossain attended the press conference.
