SC upholds Khandaker Mosharraf`s bail

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Sunday upheld the bail, initially granted by the High Court to BNP leader Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, in a money-laundering case.

A four-member Appellate Division panel headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order, paving way for the release of the BNP leader, his counsel Barrister Ragib Rauf Chowdhury said.

Earlier on August 19, 2015, the High Court granted Mosharraf bail on condition. Later, acting on a plea filed by the prosecution, Chamber Judge Court of the Appellate Division stayed the bail order and sent the matter to a regular bench for hearing.

Khurshid Alam Khan, counsel for complainant Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), said the Appellate Division disposed of the matter with a couple of observations like the passport of the accused will have to be submitted before the concerned court, and he will not be allowed to make any transaction through the bank account that has been seized.

ACC on February 6, 2015, filed the case, accusing Mosharraf of laundering around Taka 9.54 crore.
