BNP’s demand for special govt baseless: Hasan

Awami League Publicity ad Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud today said the demand of BNP for an election-time special government is totally groundless.

“BNP’s demand for a polls-time special government is absolutely baseless” as the country’s Constitution doesn’t read like this, he said while speaking at a meeting of Dhaka South City Unit of Awami League (AL) at the Engineers Institution here.

South City Unit of AL arranged a preparatory meeting ahead of the 7th March grand gathering in the capital with its President Abul Hasnat in the chair.

Hasan, also a former minister, advised BNP leaders to go through the Constitution saying, “Polls will be held under the Election Commission (EC), not under any government. Besides, all concerned will perform their regular activities under the direct supervision of the Election Commission,”

Referring to instances of some foreign countries, the AL leader confidently said the next general polls will be held under this government as many other countries, including USA, UK and India, are holding their polls in this way.

He was very critical of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s remark that “there is no good man” and said Begum Zia failed to properly evaluate the matter.

Dhaka North City Unit of AL president Shahe Alam Murad, Vice-President Abu Ahmed Monnafi, Joint General Secretary Kamal Chowdhury and Organizing Secretary Hedayetul Islam Swapon, among others, also spoke.
