Former BNP leader Tanvir’s son Irad arrested

Police early on Thursday arrested Chowdhury Irad Ahmed Siddiqui, on charges of making derogatory remarks about Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the present government on facebook.

Counter Terrorism Unit of police arrested Irad, 45, son of a former BNP leader Chowdhury Tanvir Ahmed Siddiqui, from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the city around 5am today, said a DMP (Dhaka Metropolitan Police) official.

They also seized mobile phone set, SIM card and a laptop from his possession.

During preliminary interrogation, Irad informed police that he used to live in the Netherlands. Police sources said the arrestee has been making derogatory remarks for a long by opening different facebook IDs in the name of Chowdhury Irad Ahmed Siddiky, Zamindar Chowdhury Irad Ahmed Siddiky and Iradberry Finn.

Separate cases were lodged against Irad under Information Communication Technology Act with different police stations of DMP.
