JP to form alliance to participate in next polls: Ershad

Special Envoy to the Prime Minister and Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman Alhaj Hussein Muhammad Ershad today said his party will form a separate alliance to take part in the next parliamentary elections.

"We have already talked to several political parties toward the direction--- the new alliance will be announced soon after holding final talks," Ershad said while exchanging views with journalists at his `Polli Nibas` residence here this afternoon.

"We have confidence in the newly constituted Election Commission (EC) ....it will not become like the previous one... but final comments on the EC should be made after observing its activities," Ershad said.

Ershad said, "BNP is bound to take part in the next general elections -- - otherwise its registration will be cancelled ----- the party be destroyed - -- So, there is no alternative to BNP than to take part in the next general elections for its existence."

Answering to another question, Ershad hoped that Jatiya Party nominated candidate would win the upcoming by-elections in the Gaiabdnha-1 constituency if the polls were held in a free, fair and impartial manner.

Co-Chairman of Jatiya party Golam Mohammad Quader, Convener of district unit of Jatiya Party Mofazzal Hossain Master, Convener of its Rangpur city unit Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa and Member-secretary S M Yasser, among others, were present.
