Hanif urges people to vote for AL

Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif on Tuesday called upon the people to vote for Awami League for the sake of continuation of development activities in the country.

The Awami League (AL) leader made this call while speaking at a press conference at the political office of party president Sheikh Hasina at Dhanmondi in the city.

Hanif said, "People of the country would have to prove that they want development and prosperity of Bangladesh by giving their mandate in favour of Awami League`s poll symbol `boat`, which is also the symbol of independence, progress, development and trust of Jananetri Sheikh Hasina.

They will have also to prove that they are united under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and they want to uphold the independence earned through spilling of bloods of three million martyrs." He hoped that people would cast their vote in favour of `boat` in the pourasabha polls marked for tomorrow (Wednesday) as a reflection of their hopes and aspirations.

The AL joint general secretary said, "The voters will have to take decision whether they would opt for Sheikh Hasina`s journey for progress and development of the country or they would choose the politics of terrorism, killing, corruption and subversive acts as unleashed by BNP."

Hanif said, "BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has apparently turned out to be a vocal-terrorist. She has nothing left to make any appeal to the people. She has been trying deliberately to win people`s favour in the polls resorting to falsehood and by threatening the administration.

So, we demand of the people to prove that they did not like the terrorist activities let loose by BNP giving their mandate in the polls in favour of Awami League candidates."

Pointing at AL leaders and workers, the AL joint general secretary instructed the party leaders and workers to extend all sort of support and cooperation to the Election Commission for the sake of holding a free, fair and neutral poll in a peaceful atmosphere.

"We don`t want to witness any sort of attempt of irregularities, faults and rigging to make the polls controversial. You have experienced that BNP is trying frantically to make the pourasabha polls controversial," Hanif added.

AL joint general secretary Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, agriculture affairs secretary Dr Abdur Razzak, organising secretaries Ahmed Hossain, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury and Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Swapan, office secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, health affairs secretary Dr Badiuzzaman Bhuiyan Dublew, deputy publicity secretary Asim Kumar Ukil, AL Central Working Committee members Enamul Haque Shamim and Sujit Roy Nandi were present, among others.
