EC behaving like a step mother with AL: Hanif

Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, joint general secretary of the ruling Awami League, today alleged that the Election Commission (EC) has been behaving like a step mother with his party.

"The EC has been coming up with kind attitude towards BNP and in doing so, they (EC) has been showing step motherly attitude towards Awami League. Besides, the EC could not create an equal scope regarding publicity and campaigning for Awami League," he said.

Hanif disclosed this to reporters after emerging from a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). Earlier, a delegation of Awami League (AL) led by Mahbub-ul-Hanif met CEC Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad at his office at EC secretariat in the city.

AL agriculture and cooperatives affairs secretary Dr Abdur Razzak, office secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap and health affairs secretary Dr Badiuzzaman Bhuiyan Dublew were present, among others, at the talks. Hanif said, "The EC is not behaving properly with Awami League in many ways. It has been taking action in accordance with BNP`s false allegations without reviewing them, which is not at all acceptable." He went on to add that there was no action whatsoever from the EC though Awami League became victim of attack.

"We talked about such matters at the talks with the EC. But, it doesn`t mean that the pourasabha (municipal) election will not be held in a free, fair and neutral manner. Awami League has faith upon the EC. People`s eagerness is high over the pourasabha polls as it has been held this time on party basis," the AL leader added.
