AL, BNP submit names for EC

Ruling Awami League (AL) and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) separately submitted the names for the next Election Commission (EC) to the cabinet division on Tuesday.

The two parties didn’t disclose their proposed names for EC.

In favor of AL, Abdus Sobhan Golap, Office Secretary of the party, handed over the five names signed by General Secretary Obaidul Quader to the cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam at 12.45am.

Earlier BNP’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi handed over the proposal to the cabinet secretary at 11am.

Apart from, Khelafat Mojlish, National Awami Party (Muzaffar), Jamiad-E-Ulama-E-Islam, Bangladesh Islami Front, Jatiyo Shomajtantrik Dal (Inu), a component in the Awami-led ruling party alliance, and BJP submitted their proposals to the cabinet division.

It is mentionable that, the six-member search committee on February 28 urged 31 political parties to propose five names of EC head and members to the cabinet division by January 31.
