"Those raising allegation against search committee are rubbish"

Finance Minister AMA Muhith said here today the search committee has been formed properly and its members are learned and knowledgeable persons.

"The search committee has been formed properly. Its members are learned and knowledgeable," the finance minister said while talking to journalists after attending the 100-year celebration programme of Nabiganj J.K High School here today.

"Those who are raising allegations against the search committee are wrong and rubbish," he commented.

President Abdul Hamid formed a six-member search committee headed by Appellate Division judge Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain to forward recommendations within 10 working days regarding formation of a new Election Commission.

The other members are High Court judge Justice Obaidul Hassan, Bangladesh Public Service Commission Chairman Dr Muhammed Sadique, Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Masud Ahmed, Dhaka University English Department Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam, and Chittagong University Pro-VC Shireen Akhter.

The President initiated the move as the tenure of the current Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad-led EC expires in February.
