BNP calls countrywide demo tomorrow

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party has called  a countrywide demonstration for tomorrow (January 8) as the party did not get permission to hold a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka to mark the third anniversary of the January 5 election which they term "Democracy Killing Day".

Earlier, the party sought permission from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police to hold a rally on Saturday afternoon at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka.

Party officials said that they did not hear any words from the DMP on their rally for Saturday.

“We will hold countrywide demonstration for not giving permission for rally in Dhaka,” BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told journalists at the BNP headquarters.

Meanwhile, police were deployed from Saturday morning in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan office.

BNP did not participate in January 5, 2014 election terming it farcical. While the ruling Awami League party and its allies observe January 5 as “Victory for Democracy Day”, BNP and its allies observe it as “Democracy Killing Day”.
