Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif on Sunday said the BNP wants to start a movement centering the upcoming municipality polls but they would not get any such chance.

"BNP creates allegation every day just after the announcement of the schedule of municipality polls," he said adding BNP knows they would not win in the polls as the people are boycotting their anti-people activities.

"Fearing the defeat, they are making different allegations. It is an attempt to misguide the people. They are trying to wage a movement by spreading false propaganda," Hanif said.

The Awami League leader was addressing a Samyabadi Dal discussion at Jatiya Press Club auditorium marking the Martyred Intellectual Day.

"It is the duty of Election Commission to conduct free and fair election and the government`s duty is to cooperate the commission," Hanif said.

He said there is no scope for spreading propaganda about the election and there is also no chance to wage movement centering the election.

The Awami League leader, on the other hand, said it will not be possible to overthrow the government by launching attacks on minority community centering the election. "Such ill motives would be resisted with iron hand," he said adding, "Unity is a must to build a division-free Bangladesh. Unity can be made with the people who believe in the spirit of Liberation War".

Chaired by Samyabadi Dal General Secretary Dilip Barua, the discussion was addressed by Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal General Secretary Sharif Nurul Ambia and Gonotantri Party General Secretary Shahadat Hossain, among others.
