HC scrapped Manna`s remand order
The high Court on Thursday scrapped a lower court order allowing detained Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna to be remanded in police custody for interrogation in a sedition case saying, instead, he could be quizzed at the jail gate, if required.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Md Khasruzzaman passed the order following a plea submitted by Manna`s lawyer Shahdin Malik.
A lower court earlier placed Manna on a 10-day remand but he fell sick after the third day and had to be admitted to a hospital.
After his recovery, the prosecution again pleaded him to be placed under fresh remand for the remaining seven days, prompting Manna`s lawyers to seek the High Court intervention.
Gulshan Police Station filed the sedition case against Manna and BNP leader Sadek Hossain Khoka on March 5.
