PM has given us dignity: Manju

Environment and Forest Minister Anwar Hossain Manju said here today that Bangabandhu had given us an independent country and her able daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had put the country in a position of honor, globally.

He was speaking as chief guest at a huge public meeting on community policing here at the local government boys` school.

The minister said that an American official had asked him recently if Bangladesh still imported rice and he replied in the negative. "No. We export it now," he said.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) A K M Shahidul Haq was the key speaker at the rally.

The IGP said that community policing was the key to maintaining law and order.

"Police alone could not ensure social peace. It is important that the community police also come forward to assist them," he said.

Referring to militancy, he called upon the people to help police identify them. "They would not be tolerated," he said.

Among others, local political leaders and the local superintendent of police (SP) spoke on the occasion.
