Fakhrul calls for diplomatic steps to resolve Rohingya crisis

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday called upon the government to take diplomatic steps to resolve Rohingya crisis.

He also asked the government to provide shelter to Rohingyas in Bangladesh temporarily.

The BNP leader made this call while speaking at a programme organised by Centre for Nationalism Studies at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity on Sunday afternoon.

Fakhrul condemned the role of Nobel laureate Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi for her inaction to solve the problem.

“Khaleda Zia did not pushback Rohingya people, rather she sheltered them when she was in power. Alongside, she deployed army to put pressure on Myanmar to get them back,” he said.

"We strongly oppose intervening in any issue of other countries. But we will be concerned if the burden from outside put our independence and sovereignty in peril," he said.

The BNP leader also blamed the government for its dependency on other countries and said the Awami League government cannot stand on its feet upholding the face of the country.
