AL will not give nominations to controversial figures: Quader
Newly-elected General Secretary (GS) of Awami League (AL) Obaidul Quader said last night his party will not give nominations to any controversial leader in the next general election.
‘The members of parliament who have lost confidence of the people in their respective areas for their controversial and questionable activities will not get party tickets in the next election to be held on 2019,’ Quader said.
The process of nominating alternative candidates in those constituencies has already been started, Road Transport and Bridges Minister said this while exchanging views with journalists at Chittagong Press Club (CPC).
He said the annual secret report of those controversial leaders of AL has already reached to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
‘Anybody who will be found involved in any wrong-doings and tarnishing the image of the party and the country will not be spared,’ he warned.
Referring to consequences of wrong-doers, Quader said two lawmakers of AL, including Abdur Rahman Bodi, are now in jail and three ministers are facing the court.
This gives a strong signal, he said, regarding the government’s stand against wrong activities of party men, he added.
These two examples are just the start of a long process, Quader said adding Bangladesh will become more stronger in terms of rule of law.
He asked the party leaders and workers to help translate the dream of AL into reality.
He said there might be differences of opinions among the party leaders and workers but the party chief Sheikh Hasina will not tolerate disunity.
Quader urged the party-men to be united under the leadership of Bangabandhu daughter and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the country’s development.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s tough stand will continue to achieve her Visions 2021, Quader added.
He said the popularity of AL has increased but Bangabandhu daughter Sheikh Hasina is the most popular person in the country than AL. Sheikh Hasina now became a world leader by her dynamic leadership, surpassing the party and the country, he added.
He said my main task is to prepare the party for the next general election.
‘If there are other wrong-doers in the party or the government, Bodi is not the last case. It is a continuous process’, Quader said.
CPC President Kalim Sarwar presided over the function while former CPC presidents Abu Sufian, Ali Abbas, Vice-president of BFUJ Shahidul Alam, President of Chittagong Union of Journalists Reaz Haider Chowdhury, CPC general secretary Mohsin Chowdhury, and Joint Secretary Chowdhury Farid, among others, addressed the function.
The function was attended by central Organizing Secretary of AL Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, Deputy Publicity and Publication Secretary Aminul Islam Amin, Deputy Office Secretary Barrister Biplob Barua, North district AL GS M A Salam and South district AL GS Mofizur Rahman.
