No need dialogue with BNP about search committee: Quader
Newly elected Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that Election Commission will be reformed by search committee and any dialogue with BNP is not necessary in this regard.
The minister said this at a discussion on ‘Development and Contemporary Politics’ organized by Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum (BSRF) at Media Centre in Secretariat on Sunday.
Obaidul Qader said earlier the government took initiatives for a discussion with BNP, but they didn’t response positively. Before last general election Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina phoned BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, then she abused instead of good gesture. Further Prime Minister went to offer condolence when her (Zia) younger son Arafat Rahman Koko died but returned without any positive response.
This sort of behavior is not congenial for a dialogue, he said.
On militancy Quader said Militants maybe have adjourned their activities because of law enforcers’ drive. But there are grounds for complacency thinking they left Bangladesh.
They are getting preparation for a massive attack, he added.
