2 killed in Tangail gunfight

Two members of the outlawed Sarbahara Party were killed and three others injured in a `gunfight` with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Maishamara village in Sadar upazila early Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Akbar Hossain, 45, and Manu Miah, 35, both members of the Sarbahara Party.

Being informed, the elite force raided the area at 3:15 am. Sensing the presence of RAB members, the party members opened fire on the elite force forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight, leaving five injured, said Company Commander of RAB-3 of Tangail Md Mohiuddin Faruqi.

Later, the injured were admitted to Tangail Medical College Hospital where doctors declared the two of the injured dead.

Sub-inspector Manirul Islam was also injured in the gunfight and admitted to the hospital from where he was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Later, he was taken to Combined Military Hospital, Dhaka.

The RAB also recovered one foreign-made pistol, one shutter gun, two rounds of bullet and some bullet shells from the scene.
