Durga Puja begins today
Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Bengali Hindu community, begins across the country on Monday.
A total of 29,074 pandals, including 223 in the capital, have been put up across the country this year to celebrate the Durga Puja.
Adequate security measures have already been taken in the puja pandals.
The Mohasaptami puja will be held on Tuesday, Mohashtami and Kumari Puja on Wednesday, Mohanabami puja and Bijoya Dashami on Thursday. As the Mohanabami and Biyoya Dashami this year are on the same day, there would be Darpan Bisharjan of the Goddess on Thursday and emersion of the Goddess the following day.
In separate messages, President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Leader of the Opposition Raushan Ershad conveyed greetings to the members of the Hindu community, marking the festival.
On the eve of the festival, leaders of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, Mohanagar Sarbojonin Puja Committee and Bangladesh Hindu-Bouddha-Christian Oikya Parishad conveyed Puja greetings to the members of all communities of the country.
