Barisal launch capsize: 13 bodies recovered

At least thirteen people including five women and a child died as a launch capsized in Shandhya River in Banaripara upazila of Barisal on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Shukur Dev Mallik, 40, Ira Begum, 23, Mozammel Mollah, 60, Rabeya Khatun, 40, Rehana Begum, 35, Firoza Begum, 50, Kohinur Bagum, 60, Joynal Hawladar, 60, Abdur Rashid, 44.

Faruk Hossen, Assistant Director of Barisal Fire Service, confirmed the matter to Jagonews24.com.

Ziaul Ahasan, officer-in-charge of Banaripara Police Station said, ML Oishi, with over 50 people on board, capsized at Dasherhaat point around 11.30am.

A rescue operation is underway for the missing, he added.
