PM condemns dastardly attack on Kashmir army base

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has strongly condemned the recent dastardly terrorist attack on an army base at Uri in the Indian state of Kashmir on Sunday, saying the attack has deeply saddened her.

‘I am deeply saddened to learn about the dastardly terrorist attack on the army base at Uri, Kashmir killing 17 soldiers and injuring many on 18 September 2016,’ the Prime Minister said in a message sent yesterday to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a Foreign Ministry press release said Tuesday.

On behalf of the government and the people of Bangladesh, the Premier extended her deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the Indian Prime Minister and bereaved families of the soldiers who lost their precious lives in the attack.

She prayed for early recovery of the injured personnel of the valiant armed forces of India.

‘Bangladesh strongly condemns terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms and manifestations. In line with its ‘zero tolerance’ policy against terrorism and violent extremism, Bangladesh firmly stands beside India at this difficult hour,’ Sheikh Hasina said in the message.

‘As a close friend and neighbour, we would continue to work together in our common endeavour to eradicate the menace of cross-border terrorism from this region and beyond,’ she added.

Seventeen soldiers died and many others were injured in the terrorist attack on an army base in Uri, Kashmir on September 18.
