S. Korea lifts travel alert for Bangladesh
South Korea on Monday lifted its temporary travel alert for Bangladesh, which was issued in July after a deadly terrorist attack took place in the South Asian country, the foreign ministry said.
The temporary travel warning was issued for the whole country after a terrorist attack killed dozens of people at a restaurant in the capital city of Dhaka earlier in the month.
‘Those who were behind the Dhaka restaurant terror attack were arrested in late August ... while overall public security is improving,’ the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said as it announced the lifting of the temporary travel alert, Yonhap News Agency reported.
Still, the ministry will retain its level 3 travel warning for the southeastern Bangladesh region of the Chittagong Hill Tracts, which was issued before the July attack, due to lingering security concerns over frequent armed anti-government conflicts and drug trafficking in the area, it said.
A level 2 travel warning will also remain in place for Bangladesh as a whole, it said.
A level 3 travel warning advises people to leave the region, while the lower warning urges people to refrain from traveling to the area.
