Dacoit killed in Brahmanbaria ‘gunfight’

A dacoit was killed in an alleged gunfight with police in the early hours of Sunday.

The incident took place at bridge area of Awalbhanga under Bitghor union of Nabinagar upazila in the district.

The deceased was identified as Md. Kajol Miah alias Kajol, son of Gazi Mia, of Srirampur village of the upazila. In this incident, three police members including Sub Inspector Rezaul Karim were also injured.

Police also seized a pipe gun and four machetes from their possession.

Imtiaz Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Nabinagar Police Station, said, a gang of dacoit were taking preparation to commit robbery at bridge area. Being informed, a team of police rushed to the spot. Sensing presence of them, dacoits opened fire on police members. Policemen were compelled to fire back.

At that time Kajol were killed on the spot and his associates managed to flee away, he added.
