Drive in Mirpur: 1 killed, 4 injured

One militant was killed in a gunfight with police at Shialbari area under the Rupnagar Police Station in the capital’s Mirpur.

Apart from four officials of police were injured in the incident. Police started the drive from 9am which continued till 11.15am on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Murad, trainer of new Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

The injured police officials’ are officer-in-charge (investigation) Shahin Fakir, officer-in-charge (operation) Shahid Alam, Sub Inspector Mominul and Assistant Sub Inspector Bokhari.

Mokhlesur Rahman, Additional Inspector General of Police, who visited the spot, declared ended the drive at 11.15am.

He said, police, on tipped off, jointly conducted raid at a suspected militant den at Shialbari of Rupnagar area at 9pm. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, militants fired at them, leaving four cops wounded.

‘In retaliation law enforcers also fired at the militants, leaving one of them killed,’ he added.
