Sunken BD fishing boat with 7 bodies found in Indian waters

A capsized Bangladeshi fishing Boat was found with seven bodies inside it in the Indian Sundarban on Tuesday, reports Press Trust of India.

The mechanised boat ‘FB Noor Alam’ had perhaps drifted into Indian waters and capsized during a heavy storm on 8 August, India’s state of West Bengal United Fishermen Association chief Jaikrishna Haldar said.

While returning to the shore of South 24 Parganas district, Indian fishermen found the tip of a capsized trawler at Chhaimari in the core area of Sundarban, Haldar said.

Without realising that the boat was from Bangladesh, the fishermen tied it to their own trawler ‘FB Jai Tara’ and pulled it to Brajaballabhpur ‘char’ under Patharpratima police station. It was then identified that the capsized boat was from Bangladesh, PTI said.

The seven bodies were discovered when water was being drained out from the boat, he said. However, the water could not be fully drained as tide was high and it is apprehended that more bodies could be there inside.

Several Indian fishermen died while a large number of fishermen were rescued by the Indian Coast Guard following the storm of 8 August.
