Gulshan attackers’ DNA match with relatives: DMP

Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner of the DMP on Tuesday said DNA of the five militants, who involved in Gulshan Holey Artisan Bakery attack, matched with their relatives DNA.

We can confirmed about the identities of Gulshan terror attackers through DNA test, the DC said this while he was talking to reporters at his office in Dhaka at afternoon.

He said, ‘The five attackers were identified previously and now we are confirmed about the identities after matching their DNA samples with their family members.’

The deputy commissioner said the identity of Holey Artisan Bakery’s pizza chef Saiful Islam Chowkidar had also been confirmed after the DNA tests.

Earlier, on July 1, Dhaka witnessed one of the worst terror attacks in its history as gunmen attacked Holey Artisan Bakery, an upscale eatery on Road 79 of Gulshan killing 22 people including two police officers after a 12-hour long hostage situation.

Nine Italians, seven Japanese, two Bangladeshis, one Bangladeshi-American and one Indian were among the dead.

Thirteen hostages were rescued while six of the gunmen, who attacked the upscale eatery, were killed in a 50-minute army-led joint forces operation codenamed ‘Operation Thunderbolt’ on July 2, morning.

Police identified ex-army person Major Zia, Tamim Chowdhury, a Canadian expatriates and Marzan, as the masterminds of the attack and declared tk 20 lakh as bounty for them.
