An indefinite strike of water transport workers has begun across the country to press home their four-point demand, including pay-hike.

Bangladesh water transport worker’s federation president Shah Alam confirmed the matter to reporters on Tuesday.

The demands include, increasing the minimum wage to Tk 10,000 per month, re-considering the compensation for accidents in gear, ensuring security and steps to protect the navigability of the rivers.

Vowing to carry out the strike till their demands are met, Alam informed that more than 200,000 workers are participating in the strike.
