SC fines Tk 1 crore to 10 medical colleges each

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday fined ten private medical colleges Tk one crore each for admitting 153 students who failed to fulfill requirements fixed by the government.

The apex court asked the medical colleges to give half of the fine to Dhaka University and to deposit the rest to National Liver Foundation of Bangladesh and Kidney Foundation Bangladesh in ten days.

A four-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha, passed the order after hearing on a rule asking the authorities of the medical colleges to explain by August 21 why actions would not be taken against them.

The ten medical colleges are: MH Samorita Medical College, City Medical College, Nightingale Medical College, ZH Sikder Medical College, AR Medical College, East West Medical College, Tairunnessa Memorial Medical College, Aichi Medical College, Care Medical College and Ashiyan Medical College.
