Warning 3 for seaports
The monsoon depression over North Bay off Bangladesh as well as West Bengal coasts has intensified into a deep depression, says Bangladesh Metrological Department in their special bulletin issued on Wednesday.
It was centred over Northwest bay off Bangladesh coast and Gangetic West Bengal.
Under its influence steep pressure gradient persists and deep convection is taking place over North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of the country. Squally weather may affect the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.
The maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal number three while number 2 for the rivers.
The coastal districts – Cox’s Bazar, Chittagong, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Borguna, Patuakhali, Barisal, Bhola, Pirozpur, Jhalokathi, Bagerhat, Khulna, Satkhira – and their offshore islands and chars are likely to experience wind speed up to 50-60 kph or more in gusts or squalls.
Low lying areas of the districts are likely to be inundated by tidal surge of 2-3 feet height above normal astronomical tide.
All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay have been advised to take shelter and remain in there till further notice.
