The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an investigation into Major General (Retd.) Md Siddiqur Rahman, the former Chairman of the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk). The investigation focuses on allegations of embezzling funds from various projects, including the Purbachal New Town Project, and acquiring assets beyond his known income, both for himself and his family.

Documents related to the investigation have been obtained by Jago News. However, attempts to contact the former Chairman for a comment on the allegations have been unsuccessful.

On Thursday, April 10, ACC's Deputy Director and Public Relations Officer, Aktarul Islam, confirmed that, as part of the investigation, the Commission has issued a notice summoning correspondence related to the case. However, he could not provide further details at this time.

To conduct the investigation, a three-member team has been formed, led by ACC Director Md Abul Hasnat. The other team members include Assistant Director Bishan Ghosh and Deputy Assistant Director Afia Khatun.

The investigation is also looking into Siddiqur’s salary, allowances, and other legitimate benefits during his tenure at the Ministry of Housing and Public Works. Additionally, the Commission has requested that relevant investigation reports be submitted by April 16 if any complaints were lodged during his tenure.

Furthermore, the ACC has requested the current Chairman of Rajuk to provide board meeting information from 2022 to 2024. These details must be submitted by April 17.

Based on intelligence reports suggesting that Siddiqur Rahman and his wife, Gazia Rebeca Roushan, may attempt to leave the country, the ACC has filed a petition with the court to impose a travel ban on them.

The ACC has also sought information on Siddiqur Rahman’s bank transactions from all 64 scheduled banks in the country.

Siddiqur Rahman was appointed Chairman of Rajuk in April 2024 for a two-year term. However, following a change in government, his appointment was annulled on September 19 of the same year, only to be reinstated on September 22. His appointment was finally canceled again by the interim government in March 2025.
