Vibrant Ram Navami procession in Dhaka

The Bangladesh National Hindu Mahajot celebrated Ram Navami, marking the advent of Lord Shri Ramchandra, with a vibrant and colourful procession in Dhaka on Sunday (April 6).
The procession began at the premises of the Ram Sita Temple and concluded at the Jai Kali Temple, drawing participation from over a thousand devotees of Lord Ram.
Before the procession commenced, a discussion meeting was held at the temple premises. The session was presided over by Advocate Dinbandhu Roy, President of the Bangladesh National Hindu Mahajot, and featured speeches from prominent leaders of the organisation, including Secretary General Advocate Govinda Chandra Pramanik, Presidium Member Sujan Dey, Women's Affairs Secretary Advocate Pratibha Bagchi, and Chhatra Mahajote President Sajib Kundu Tapu.
In his address, Govinda Chandra Pramanik highlighted the timeless teachings of the Ramayana, emphasising the importance of responsibility towards neighbours and justice for all citizens under their rulers. He expressed hope for stronger, equitable relations between Bangladesh and India, stating: "We learn from the Ramayana the values of fairness, respect, and mutual responsibility. At present, as neighbours, we aspire to maintain good relations with India based on equality and fairness."
Pramanik also welcomed the recent meeting between Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bangkok on Friday, noting that it has dispelled negative perceptions about bilateral relations that had emerged in recent months.
"We believe the two neighbouring countries will move forward together with mutual respect and admiration, complementing each other’s progress," he added.
He further urged for the swift resolution of visa-related complications between Bangladesh and India, reiterating the Mahajot’s commitment to fostering peace and harmony in the region.
Participants emphasised the universal message of the Ramayana—one of peace, justice, and harmony—and expressed their desire to live peacefully in Bangladesh, their beloved motherland.
