Xi assures full support for investment in Bangladesh

Dr Khalilur Rahman, the High Representative on the Rohingya Problem and Priority Issues Affairs to Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, said on Sunday that in response to the proposal by Chief Adviser regarding Chinese investment in Bangladesh, Chinese President Xi Jinping has assured full support and personally committed to overseeing the matter.

The Chinese President assured that China would provide all kinds of assistance for the rehabilitation of the Rohingyas. Additionally, he said, the Chinese government would support Bangladesh in meeting its water needs for the next 50 years, he said.

Dr. Khalilur Rahman made these comments during a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital, following the Chief Adviser’s visit to China. Also present at the briefing were Ashik Chowdhury, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), and Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser.
