Moderate heat wave to linger through Eid

The ongoing moderate heat wave sweeping across parts of Bangladesh is set to continue for the first three days of Eid, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

While most regions will experience dry and hot weather, there is a possibility of light rain in Sylhet on Eid afternoon.

The BMD report highlights that an intense heat wave is gripping Jessore and Sirajganj, while a moderate heat wave is prevailing over Dhaka, Barisal, Rajshahi, Khulna, Brahmanbaria, Rangamati, and Moulvibazar.

Meteorologist Bazlur Rashid said, "The weather will remain dry for the first three days of Eid, with the heat persisting. However, Sylhet and nearby areas might see light rain on Eid afternoon."

He also noted that temperatures are expected to rise further from April 3, with no significant rainfall forecasted across the country.

According to the BMD's regular weather bulletin, the sky may remain cloudy on Eid day, but no major relief from the heat is expected.

On March 29, Jashore recorded the highest temperature in the country, while Rajshahi saw the lowest at 19.6°C.

Although March began with scattered rain and cloudy skies, temperatures have been rising steadily. The first phase of this year’s heat wave was observed on March 18.

Meteorologist Bazlur Rashid warned that from April 3, the heat wave could escalate from moderate to severe levels.

According to the BMD classification:

Mild heat wave: 36°C - 37.9°C

Moderate heat wave: 38°C - 39.9°C

Severe heat wave: 40°C - 41.9°C

Extreme heat wave: 42°C and above

As temperatures rise, people are advised to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight, and take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses.
