Court declares BNP leader Ishraque DSCC mayor

A Dhaka court has declared BNP leader Ishraque Hossain as the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation, DSCC, cancelling results of the polls held in 2020.
Dhaka 1st Joint District Judge and Election Tribunal Judge Md Nurul Islam delivered the verdict on Thursday, March 27, sources in the court said.
The court also scrapped the gazette notification issued declaring Barrister Fazle Noor Tapash as mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation, DSCC.
On March 3, 2020, BNP-backed mayoral candidate Ishraque Hossain filed a case with the court, seeking an order to cancel the gazette declaring Tapash as DSCC mayor.
