Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Nasimul Gani, has said that those staying in their homes in Dhaka during the Eid holidays will remain safe.

He made this statement in response to questions from journalists after a meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Government Procurement at the Secretariat on Thursday (March 27).

When asked about security measures for those staying in Dhaka during the long Eid holidays, Nasimul Gani said, “Those who have cars will be able to travel comfortably. Those staying at home will also, InshaAllah, remain safe.”

He further stated, “You can test the 999 emergency service yourself. I personally tried calling at 1:00 am to see how they respond, and they responded immediately, dispatching the police right away. The most important thing is that our law enforcement agencies were not as active before, but now they are fully operational and making efforts. There may still be concerns, but they are trying, and their efforts will continue.”

Regarding police deployment during the holidays, he said, “Police do not have leave. They will be on duty 24 hours a day. A large number of people will leave Dhaka during this period. We are making every effort to ensure their journey is smooth. We are also working with local bus owner associations and transport unions to enhance security.”

Nasimul Gani expressed optimism, saying, “InshaAllah, we hope that no untoward incidents will occur. Law enforcement agencies will remain highly alert during this time. We trust that Allah, who has protected our country from various dangers in the past, will continue to bless us with his mercy, and we will remain safe.”

When asked whether police leave had been canceled, he clarified, “They are always on duty. A police station is an institution that has been operational since 1861, running 24/7. It has never closed before 2024, and it will continue to operate. All police stations will remain open.”

Regarding security on highways, he added, “Extra vigilance has been ensured for highway security. The Highway Police are fully active, and various measures have been taken. Passengers will witness these arrangements during their travels.”
