A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of cricketer Shakib Al Hasan's assets in a cheque dishonour case.

Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman issued the order on Monday.

Earlier, on December 18 last year, Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque summoned Shakib Al Hasan and three others in the case filed by IFIC Bank. The court later directed Shakib to appear before it on January 18 this year. However, after he failed to do so, arrest warrants were issued against him and the other accused on January 19.

The case was filed on December 15, 2024, by IFIC Bank's Relationship Officer, Sahibur Rahman. The other accused include Shakib Agro Farm Managing Director Gazi Shahagir Hossain, Director Imdadul Haque, and Malaika Begum.

According to the case details, Shakib Agro Farm took loans from IFIC Bank's Banani branch for business purposes and issued two cheques for repayment. However, the cheques, amounting to approximately Tk 4.15 crore, were dishonoured due to insufficient funds.

Following the dishonour, IFIC Bank's Banani branch sent a legal notice via daily newspapers, in accordance with the Negotiable Instruments Act, requesting repayment within 30 days. As no response was received, the bank proceeded with legal action.
